Seychelles
Among the 115 coral islands that make up the Seychelles are some of the most idyllic island getaways in the whole world. Scattered in the Indian Ocean over an area of 455km², the archipelago lies between 480km and 1,600km off the east coast of Africa. Widely regarded as one of the most heavenly places on earth, the Seychelles are a luxuriant, tropical paradise that is pictured in countless advertisements and glossy travel brochures.

Seychelles’ 115 islands fall under two distinct groups, the Inner and Outer Islands.
Inner Islands
The tall, granitic Inner Islands cluster mostly within the relatively shallow Seychelles’ plateau, around the main islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Together they form the cultural and economic hub of Seychelles, as well as the centre of the country’s tourism industry. The Inner Islands are home to the majority of Seychelles’ accommodation facilities as well as almost the entire population of the archipelago. Of the 43 Inner Islands, 41 are granitic and 2 only are coralline.
Outer Islands
The more secluded, low-lying sand cays, atolls and reef islands of the Outer Islands lie mainly beyond the Seychelles’ plateau. Lying anywhere between 230km and 1150km from Mahé, those 72 coral islands are divided into five small clusters: the Amirantes Group, the Southern Coral Group, Alphonse Group, Farquhar Group and the Aldabra Group. Less visited than the Inner Islands due to their relative remoteness, these pristine miniature bits of land, some little more than sand spits or lonely rocky outcrops, provide untouched habitats for many species of wildlife. The only two Outer Islands groups to have accommodation facilities, Alphonse and Desroches boast luxuriously appointed lodges as well as unmatched opportunities for sailing, fishing and diving.
