Vanuatu is an archipelago of 83 islands with a unique blend of intact tribal communities, resorts, beaches and geography ranging from accessible volcanoes to pristine underwater environments. The island nation lies in the South Pacific Ocean, between New Caledonia and Fiji, some 1,750 km northeast of Australia. After decades of British-French condominium, through which France and the United Kingdom jointly managed the archipelago as the New Hebrides, the Republic of Vanuatu was born in 1980.
